Meet the Board

President, Richard Sasser

Richard Sasser joined the Ferris ISD Board of Trustees in 2019. He is a proud husband, father of 3, and grandfather to 1 amazing grandson. Mr. Sasser has raised his family in the Ferris community, where 2 of his children have already graduated from Ferris ISD and his youngest son will graduate this year. He is passionate about supporting students, teachers, and the community. Professionally, Mr. Sasser works as a logistics maanger and focuses on organization, teamwork, and problem-solving — skills he also brings to his roll on the School Board. Ferris ISD holds a special place in Mr. Sasser's heart and he is committed to helping the district continue to grow and thrive.

Vice President, Misty Koerkenmeier

Misty Koerkemeier joined the Ferris ISD Board of Trustees in 2024. A proud resident of Ferris since 2017, Mrs. Koerkemeier is deeply involved in the community through her active participation in PTOs, service on the Ferris Education Foundation Board, and numerous volunteer efforts. She is happily married to her husband, Shawn, and together they have two daughters.

Driven by a passion for education, Mrs. Koerkemeier is dedicated to ensuring that every child has access to a fair, equitable, and enriching educational experience


 

Secretary, Hershana Rouwtt

Hershana Rouwtt is a dedicated public servant with over 13 years of experience in public service and a lifelong commitment to the Ferris community. A proud graduate of Ferris Independent School District, Hershana has lived in Ferris her entire life and raised her children in the same school system, where they attended from kindergarten through graduation.

For more than seven years, Hershana has volunteered with the Ferris Youth Sports Association, supporting programs that build teamwork, confidence, and leadership among local youth. Her deep roots in the community have given her a strong understanding of the needs of local families and schools, as well as a genuine desire to see every student thrive.

Raised with a belief in hard work, integrity, and service to others, Hershana takes great pride in fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all students. She remains steadfast in her commitment to education, community service, and student success, continually working to empower young people to reach their fullest potential.

Trustee, Lee Longino

A lifelong servant to others, Lee dedicated 55 years as a licensed funeral director in the state of Texas. He began his career at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass and gained valuable experience working at several funeral homes before purchasing Green Funeral Home in 1975. He compassionately served families across the City of Ferris in their time of greatest need for nearly five decades.

In addition, Lee faithfully served on the Ferris ISD Board of Trustees for over 40 years, demonstrating his unwavering love to the community. He was deeply invested in the growth and improvement of the district, advocating for enhanced educational opportunities and state-of-the-art facilities. In recognition of his lasting impact and heartfelt commitment, Ferris Intermediate School was renamed Lee Longino Elementary in 2021. Lee had a profound love for his town, its people, and the school district he served so passionately. 

Above all else, Lee deeply loved his family. Lee is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Billinda, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, and devoted canine companion, Bentlee Rose. 

Lee's legacy of love, service, and strength will live on in all who knew him. Though he is gone, his spirit remains a guiding light for his family and community. 


 

Trustee, Nancy Salmon

Nancy Salmon joined the Ferris ISD Board of Trustees in 2018. A former teacher, Mrs. Salmon taught for 3 years in Andrews, Texas and 36 years in Dallas ISD. She has served as both trustee and Vice President of the Ferris ISD School Board. In her spare time, she enjoys reading adventure novels, working on needlepoint projects, and serving as a mentor at Ferris High School.

Trustee, Maria Elena Ramirez

Elena Ramirez joined the Ferris ISD Board of Trustees in 2024. A native Ferris resident and Class of 2001 alum, Mrs. Ramirez owns a business here in town. Her and her husband, Uriel, have 5 boys; 2 Ferris ISD graduates and 3 still in school. Her love for the city and this school district fueled her desire to serve on the School Board.


 

Trustee, Nick Hamm

Nick Hamm joined the Ferris ISD Board of Trustees in 2016. A native Ferris resident and Class of 1973 alum, Mr. Hamm met his wife in the 5th grade. Together they have 2 boys, 1 grandson, and 2 granddaughters. They have been married for 52 years and live on his grandparents farm. Mr. Hamm retired from the U.S. Postal Service here in Ferris after 24 years.
